Fieldwork Studio
~ nurturing arts, ecology & agriculture ~
Fieldwork Studio is led in partnership with Slade Farm Organics, a three-generation family farm tenancy situated on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. The studio programme spans community growing, rural residencies, research and artist support.
Fieldwork centres approaches from organic farming, rural culture and artist-led spaces to support regenerative practices, rest, care and sustainable working within the arts, ecology and agriculture.
The Artist Support & Residency Programme is led by Welsh artist and filmmaker Phoebe Davies. In line with our work supporting generative and sustainable ecologies, Phoebe leads an artist development programme and residencies programme shaped by the Organic Agriculture Principles.
The Ecology & Academic Research Programme is led by Dr Josie D'Urban Jackson (biodiversity researcher) and principle farmer Polly Davies. Their current research explores restoration for rare arable plants with the aim to connect threatened grassland ecosystems, restore rare arable plant habitats, and connect the local community to their natural heritage and the ecosystem services it provides.
The Community Growing Programme is led by farmer & grower Graeme Wilson, this programme works with our local communities to deliver truly sustainable produce throughout the year, spanning schools visits, workshops, a volunteer programme, community veg bag scheme and support for food insecure households.
As our roots are at the early stages of growth, please be aware all members of the team work part time / seasonally.
The Fieldwork Studio CIC Directors are; Phoebe Davies (artist), Graeme Wilson (Slade Farm Organics) and Dr Josie D'Urban Jackson (biodiversity researcher) with supported from Gill Lloyd as a Non-Executive Director and our Associate Financial Officer.
This artist-led programme has been shaped through research and shared learning from g39, Somerset House Studios, Wysing Arts Centre, Bidston Observatory Artistic Research Centre, Artsadmin, Scottish Sculpture Workshop, The Portland Inn Project and Portland Institute of Contemporary Art.
